A patent for certain unified messaging systems is undergoing reexamination by the US Patent and Trademark Office, and a Quandary Peak Research expert has been called on to assist the patent assignee.

US Patent 7,702,669, assigned to RingCentral, Inc., discloses a system for synchronizing different types of messages between multiple clients and servers. Several references to prior art, including previously issued patents, were introduced against the RingCentral patent.

A Quandary Peak Research expert analyzed the patent in question along with the prior art and prepared a Rule 132 declaration. The declaration stated the expert’s opinion as to what a person having ordinary skill in the art (PHOSITA) would have understood at the time the patent was filed and whether it would have been obvious to combine certain elements of the prior art.
